Valved holding chambers are devices designed for use with metered-dose inhalers (MDI). Their purpose is to improve medication delivery, decrease deposition of medication in the mouth and throat, and eliminate the need to coordinate activating the MDI with inhaling the medication.

Holding chambers keep the medicine suspended in the chamber until the patient is ready to inhale. It therefore reduces the need for hand breath coordination. As a result, there is improved medication delivery with a decrease in oral drug deposition.

AeroChamber Plus VHC is an improvement of the original AeroChamber® VHC. It is designed to:

• Maximize delivery of pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) medications to patients' lungs
• Reduce patients' need for hand-breath coordination
• Reduce oral deposition

AeroChamber Plus VHC includes upgrades not found in the original AeroChamber VHC. These improvements include:

• Chamber design. AeroChamber Plus VHC delivers 22% more fine-particle medication (particles < 4.7 micrograms of fluticasone propionate) than the original AeroChamber VHC. The new design maximizes fine particle dosage and allows aerosolized medication to be suspended in the chamber, which minimizes the need for hand-breath coordination.
• Inhalation valve. The inhalation valve is new and more durable. Designed for low resistance, it is effective with low respiratory effort.
• Exhalation valve. The exhalation valve has been refined to provide low resistance to exhaled flow.
• MDI adapter. A new polymer material has been selected for the MDI adapter to improve durability.
• Latex-free mask. The latex-free mask has been redesigned to be more comfortable and provide a better fit.

As with the original AeroChamber VHC, AeroChamber Plus VHC is available with and without a mask. The masks are available in three sizes: small, medium, and large.
